Classes Will Be Held in the Evening to Accommodate Students Who Work Full Time During the Day
(JACKSONVILLE, NC) December 14, 2023 – According to national surveys from education nonprofit ECMC Group in January 2023, 19 percent of high-school students said they are considering career and technical education in the skilled trades this year, compared to 15 percent in 2020, and more than two-thirds say their preferred educational environment would involve hands-on or on-the-job learning. Recognizing this trend, Miller-Motte College-Jacksonville, part of Ancora’s network of private postsecondary schools and a leading workforce training provider, has launched an electrical training program with evening classes to help prepare students for entry-level electrical service technician positions.
“The new electrical training program at Miller-Motte will prepare students to apply for entry level positions in the electrical field. It is a great pathway for individuals who are starting out in their careers as well as for those looking to add new skills to their resume,” said Rogelio Medina, Regional Director of Operations for Ancora, Miller-Motte College parent company. “A big plus is the evening class schedule, which is geared toward people who work during the day so they can take classes in the evening.”
Based upon feedback from employers in the community, Miller-Motte’s Electrical program will be held in the evening in order to accommodate individuals who work full time during the day. The training combines classroom-style education with hands-on learning to help prepare students for a career in the electrical field. Upon graduation, students are prepared for entry level positions such as Electrical and Electronics Installers and Repairers capable of troubleshooting, servicing and repairing residential and commercial electrical systems. Students will learn the following skills:
- Equipment and shop safety procedures
- Voltage measurement using an Ohmmeter
- NEC codebook
- Conduit bending and pipe threading
- Installing conductors
- Raceway systems
- Pull boxes
- Electric Motors
- Troubleshooting electrical circuits
“We are very excited to see the Electrical program launch in Jacksonville as it offers a chance to make a positive difference in the lives of people by training for a long-term career in the electrical field,” said Bill Myers, Ancora’s National Program Director.
Enrollment in MMC’s Electrical training program is on a rolling basis and the 50-quarter credit hour program can be completed in 10 months.
*Although the information taught in this program may be helpful, it does not prepare students to become a licensed electrician.
