SUNY Orange To Offer Ancora Training’s CDL-A Program

Classes begin April 29 at Middletown Campus

Orange County, New York – (April 2024) — Ancora Training, a leading provider of workforce development programs, has announced their CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) program will now be offered at Orange County Community College (SUNY Orange). The community college is part of the State University of New York (SUNY) system.

Ancora has a strong focus on CDL training across its own on-site schools and the Ancora Training division. SUNY Orange’s 4-week program provides an opportunity for local residents who are at least 21 years old to begin a new career by training to inspect and operate tractor trailers, and to assume driver responsibilities. All instruction takes place at the college’s Middletown campus using Ancora Training’s equipment. Upon passing their skills exam at the DMV, students who complete the course are eligible to apply for one of the many open positions within the transportation industry (a reported 60,000 in the U.S. according to the Commercial Carrier Journal in January 2024).

“A CDL-A license provides a rapid entry point to a career in trucking,” said Natalie Williams, Vice President at Ancora Training. “By expanding the reach of our CDL training, we’re helping fill the gap in the shortage of drivers nationwide.”

“Orange County is at the crossroads of two major trucking routes in Interstate 84 and the New York Thruway (I-87), and this region is becoming a shipping, transportation and logistics hub,” added Dr. Jean Leandre, Vice President for Workforce, Strategy and Innovation at SUNY Orange. “The College is happy to be working with Ancora Training to bring CDL programming to support area residents looking to enter the trucking industry and earn sustainable wages.”

Ancora Training manages CDL programs for more than 40 community colleges across the United States including Central Ohio Technical College, Austin Community College, and Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA), among others.

CDL classes will begin on April 29 at the SUNY Orange campus located at 115 South Street, Middletown, NY 10940. Online registration is currently available. For more information and/or to register, visit www.sunyorange.edu/plus.
